One day we went out to the park to go feed ducks. This event in itself isn’t that nostalgic, but what is, is the place we went. When I was little we use to go to the same pond and feed the ducks. I can always remember how fun it was. I wanted to recreate that same feeling for my kids, so we loaded up in the minivan (back in the day it was a station wagon) and started heading over to the ducks. Along the way there were many clear noticeable changes in scenery. From larger corporate buildings, filled in areas where there use to be fields and big parking lots where it use to be open loaded with birds. Well we continued on finally arriving to the ducks. Fortunately the pond was there, however there was a 2 lane larger road going right by it and a massive parking lot surrounding the other side. The noise definitely did set the stage for a quiet more remote duck feeding, but whatever we also had cell phones, ipods and other things so I guess it was somewhat fitting.
We took our bread and started throwing it into the ducks when the water started to look like it was boiling. Crazy, there were some of the biggest carp fish I had ever seen coming up like sea monsters (pond monsters) and stealing the food from the ducks. After trying to throw the bread far enough for the ducks the carp were just too many so my kids just got a kick out of feeding the carp instead. We had a great time, enjoyed the sunshine and who knows, maybe in 20 years our kids will take there kids here and say do you remember feeding those nasty big carp!
